Spread Love: Unity In Progress Mural

“Unity is something that not only the Inwood community should have but the whole world” declared student Meliza Cepeda. Hers was the winning design for “Unity in Progress,” a mural recently painted by students from the youth program at Inwood Community Services and Inwood Academy for Leadership led by local teaching artist Reynaldo García Pantaleón.

Today unity and inclusion ring stronger and louder than ever before. This sentiment was echoed by representatives of the two schools, Christina Reyes, Jeannie Infante and Louis Cabrera as well as Joanna Castro of NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) during the official unveiling on Wednesday, August 23 at IS 52 the corner Broadway and Academy on.

The goal of the mural project was to foster collaboration between different schools with two additional murals are planned for 2017-18. “Unity in Progress” was made possible in part thanks to the Neighborhood 360 Grant awarded to NoMAA by the Small Business Services. Viewing of the mural is free and open to the public.
