The 2nd annual “Project S.Y.S. – Save the Youth Showcase” is a tribute to the hundreds of young people who have been victims of youth violence uptown, including Brian Maldonado, 17, who was attacked and murdered over a leather jacket on W. 186th Street in October 2008. (Click here for a blog post and photos from last year’s event.)
Dozens of performers from the five boroughs and across artistic styles and speakers, including Maldonado’s mother and community leaders, will inspire audience members to find alternatives to the kids of street culture that often lead to negative consequences.
Besides the talent showcase there will also be information from civic and youth organizations.
The evening is hosted by the rapper Audubon, who starred on the MTV’s “Washington Heights” reality show, and the “HipRocknB” songstress Tess.
