Requiem For A Fallen Soldier

BY Frank Medina (@FRANKELITONYC)

Young Man Washington Heights

I remember that first day
in the 1st grade
school boy uniform
and a low fade…
Just there chillin’
really not much to say
and then you came
like “Hey I’m Idi..want to play”
and so it became
like every single day
2 dudes from the block
just trying to find our way

From learning how to add
to trying to get this pay
from working on our dreams
trying to make it out this maze…

“Natural bond”
brother’s from different moms
you were banging on the court
while I was banging out these songs

The smile you possessed
was known to light the room
a child under stress
but never could it ruin..
the man that you were
Loyal since birth
an angel on earth
who took his place to soon

So I’m going take the time
cherish all the memories
make it out for both
and carry out your legacy
and when I see the gates
and my soul reaches Exodus
just want to let you know
boy you were the best of us..
you were the best of us..
boy you were the best of us..
So when I see the gates
and my soul reaches Exodus
I just want to let you know…
IDI you were the best of us…
