POLITICS AS USUAL? BUT NOT FOR THE UPTOWN COLLECTIVE.  We have an understanding of what this mechanism, known as politics is about and what the roles that people known as politicians are supposed to play. Their job is to be the collective voice of the group they represent and act on their constituent’s best interest. Politicians are employees of the community they serve. It is for all those reasons that the Uptown Collective is hosting their second in a series of “Politicking with the People” forums.

Politicking with the People is an intimate affair where invited guests are given the opportunity to know, understand and interact with a candidate that is running for public office. A platform like this places citizens in a position, to make a wiser decision on which candidate they would give the power to speak and act on their behalf.

The first one was hosted for candidate Guillermo Linares,  who is currently running for State Assemblyman for Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill, and was a great success. This second UC political forum, will be to dialogue with Mark Levine, who is currently running for State Senate. In early 2009 he founded New York City’s newest political club, the Barack Obama Democratic Club of Upper Manhattan. Mark is founder of Upper Manhattan’s first and only community development credit union, Neighborhood Trust. Mark is chair of the Traffic and Transportation Committee of Community Board 12.

So here is your chance to listen to him while having him listen to you. POLITICIANS ARE PEOPLE TOO. Do not talk up to them. Do not have them talk down to you. JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!
