Indian Road Café, located at 218th street and Indian Road, is many things to many people – it is, get ready, a family restaurant with a serious organic, seasonal and localvore bent, a wine bar, an ale house, a coffee bar and a community gathering and performance space. Looking to fill the void that existed for a comfortable neighborhood café, longtime Inwood resident Jason Minter teamed up with his close friend Jason Berger to create this elegant and eclectic eatery. Being that Jason Minter functioned as an associate producer on the HBO hit series The Sopranos for 10 years, Indian Road Café has some interesting flourishes such as the fact that the main section of the restaurant is furnished with tables and chairs that were used on The Sopranos restaurant set, Nuovo Vesuvio. I went there this past Saturday during brunch and sat at the 75-year-old oak bar that was transported from the Catskills to New York City and had an excellent Cuban sandwich that was washed down with an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. The bartender that day, Stefan, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and aided me in making my selection from the extensive beer list. FYI…they are serious about their beer here. So whether you are looking for a good meal, a nice glass of wine, have a specialty beer fetish or just want a spot to have a good cup of coffee and work on your evil plot for world domination, this is your go to spot.
