Q. How did this event come about?

A. The Uptown Fashion Week idea was to create a fashion bridge between the Downtown fashion industry in NYC and the Uptown Area. Our intention was also to highlight the talent of our up and coming Fashion Designers who do not have the resources to showcase their work during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, which is one of the most amazing events in NYC.

Q. What can be people expect from the event?

A. From the UFW event people can expect a lot more than an exclusive show and art demonstration from talented designers from all over the world but we are also looking to bring awareness to a very important social issue that is affecting the community, which is Domestic violence. We are dedicating this year to this cause in order to help the youth of the community.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish with this event?

A. Uptown Fashion Week is a hip alternative to the mainstream destination for fashion. We are also looking to help the Washington Heights area obtain some of the luster that is associated with Fashion Week downtown. Ultimately, the goal is to bring up some of the Fashion Week success to the uptown area, which in the long run could help Uptown businesses as well.

For the past couple of years, New York City has seen a major shift of nightlife, art and fashion, from Downtown to Uptown and it seems that the media and the rest of the world are just now starting to catch on to this movement.

The purpose of UFW event is:

1- To highlight this movement

2- To bring attention to an underlying community problem of Domestic violence.

Q. Any final thoughts?

A. I believe Uptown is just as viable and vibrant a community of art & fashion as is downtown Manhattan and I believe that the designs at the Uptown Fashion Week Show will exemplify this.
