Q&A with shark specialist Tobey Curtis and Greg Metzger, facilitated by Alex Horwitz, director of documentary Hamilton’s America.
Local shark researchers, Tobey Curtis and Greg Metzger, are co-founders of the Long Island Shark Collaboration, a research and education platform focused on the study of sharks found in New York’s coastal waters. Recently, their team became the first in the Atlantic Ocean to attach satellite tags to newborn great white sharks, revealing new information about their nursery grounds and migration patterns. Their ongoing research is aimed at improving conservation and educating Long Island residents about the importance of their local waters to shark populations.
Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel. The film stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, Robert Shaw as shark hunter Quint, Richard Dreyfuss as oceanographer Matt Hooper, Murray Hamilton as Larry Vaughn, the mayor of Amity Island, and Lorraine Gary as Brody’s wife, Ellen. 2 hours, 4 mins.
