NYRR Games to feature 11 gold medalists
It’ll be a new runners’ high.
Northern Manhattan will soon get a close-up look at a slew of recent track and field stars, as 11 gold medalists from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics have been confirmed for this year’s New York Road Runners (NYRR) Millrose Games in Washington Heights.
The 110th installment of the NYRR Millrose Games will take place on February 11 at The Armory’s New Balance Track and Field Center on 168th Street.
USA Track and Field (USATF) Chief Executive Officer Max Siegel said the participation of several U.S. stars in the Millrose Games was appropriate after a history-making performance in Rio.
“It is only fitting that so many medalists from our 2016 team compete at the most historic indoor meet in the world,” said Siegel.
Three reigning Olympic hurdles champions — Americans Brianna Rollins (100 meters) and Dalilah Muhammad (400 meters) and Jamaican Omar McLeod (110 meters) — will take park in the event, as will Shaunae Miller from the Bahamas, who dove across the finish line to win gold in the women’s 400 meters final.
