A Few Words of Praise for Word Up Books

BY Led Black (@Led_Black)

It was all supposed to end tonight. July 14th was slated to be the last day of Word Up Books but thanks to the people of the neighborhood and their support of this community affirming space and Vantage Residential, we now have an extension until the end of September. While it means that Word Up will be around longer it also means we have to continue to support, patronize and volunteer to keep the place going. In the short time that it has been around, Word Up has contributed to the coming together of the neighborhood. Being in that place, even when the AC wasn’t working, one understands instinctively, the real meaning of community. We now have had celebrated authors, neighborhood rappers, theatre, poetry and everything in between at Word Up and we are only getting started. Word Up will only be as awesome as we make it. Let’s do it – Word Up. Long live Word Up Books!

I am so excited to see that Word Up Books’ time has been expanded until September! Maybe I will be able to visit in in person (I live in tampa, Florida now, but used to live in the Heights)!! I am so happy and proud to see the Uptown Community organize, support, and patronize such a worthy and sore-needed collective. Long live Word Up Books!

Oops… I meant to use one “in” and capitalize “Tampa”!
