On Saturday, June 18th Word Up Books will be celebrating 5 awesome years of being an indispensable community resource. In light of that significant milestone, Word Up is throwing an all day long shindig. The festivities kick off at 11 am. See below for the deets.

11 AM: Story Time Family Breakfast—with Saxophone!
Our story time reader Mariel Escalante will be joined by local saxophonist Blair Jensen, and together they’ll read and perform kids’ books about Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.

1–7 PM: Music, Readings, Spoken Word Performances, & Visual Art

We’ll officially celebrate the completion of the painting that Word Up’s resident painter Reynaldo García Pantaléon has been working on since the fall of 2013, incorporating the stories of Word Up and the neighborhood into a beautiful overhead ceiling duct.
With food generously donated by Pick and Eat, Toast Uptown, Chipotle, Coogan’s, Mario’s Hamburger and Pizza, Famiglia Pizza, La Parrilla, & El Bacan.
And beverages generously donated by Dyckman Beer Co.
