One week till our Indiegogo campaign ends! Thank you to everyone who has contributed! The campaign has been great so far, but we still have more to raise before we hit our goal by January 1. Please help in any way you can; contributions of $5, $10, $15 are still incredibly helpful, and all donations are tax-deductible. Here’s some big news: the United Palace of Cultural Arts is offering a challenge donation: if we raise at least another $5,000 between now and the end of the campaign, the United Palace of Cultural Arts will MATCH that with their own contribution of $5,000! The United Palace has been generously storing much of the bookshop inventory since we had to close our doors on August 31.
See below for what Junot Díaz has to say about Word Up Books.
DID YOU SEE OUR DANCE VIDEO? When we hit the milestone of $20,000, we released a silent film/Bollywood dance video as thanks to our contributors, and as encouragement to the rest of you to contribute. That’s right, we want Word Up to succeed so much that we will dance for you. But you know what we want even more? We want to dance WITH YOU at the grand opening of a new storefront, so please contribute to our Indiegogo today!
3 WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE!
1. INDIEGOGO—OUR ONLINE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN. Please check out our Indiegogo page for WHY you should contribute in the next 45 days, and ALL THE AWESOME PERKS you’ll get—books, prints, T-shirts, notebooks, tote bags, an original storybook produced by the Word Up collective, a pre-opening cocktail fiesta, an intimate dinner, original art . . . even a key to the store!!! Many of these perks are by authors, artists, and artisans in our own neighborhood, and by supporting us, you’ll be supporting them. There are perks for readers and writers, the young and the old, individuals and organizations, art lovers and neighborhood supporters. You’ll need a PayPal account in order to contribute to our Indiegogo campaign. Our Indiegogo campaign ends on December 23, 2012.
2. CHECK/MONEY ORDER. If you’re too cool for the new school and want to pay with a check or money order, we take those too: payable to Seven Stories Institute (our 501(c)(3) nonprofit sponsor) and sent to Word Up, 809 W. 181 St. #239, New York, NY 10033.
3. CREDIT CARD. If credit cards are your thing but you don’t want to go through Indiegogo (which processes our payments via PayPal), that’s also possible; email us at email@example.com and we’ll set it up.
