A beloved Inwood artist recently diagnosed with leukemia isn’t letting his life-altering illness keep his spirits down.
“I’m trying to blow through this and get back in the world,” Will Alicea told the Daily News by phone from his bed at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
Alicea — or Will Teez, as most call him — is known for selling his custom made t-shirts and hoodies promoting Inwood and Washington Heights.
He’s become a familiar face throughout upper Manhattan, from the Indian Road Cafe to the farmer’s market.
But months ago, the “Inwood t-shirt guy” became ill and earlier this month he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer that grows inside bone marrow.
With no health insurance, Alicea’s concerns turned to how he would pay for his hospital bills.
So he set up an Indiegogo website to accept donations. The fund-raising goal was a modest $5,000.
