Young cyclists are discovering that two is better than one—especially when it comes to biking.

Two-by-two, dozens of kids tried their hand (and feet) at tandem biking on Saturday, pedaling around Washington Heights’ J. Hood Wright Park.

“At first it was pretty scary,” said 14-year-old Chris Gonzalez, who shrieked as his bike screamed down the slope in the shadow of the George Washington Bridge. “I thought I was going to die,” he added, “but I just pedaled and it got easier.”

The learn-to-ride event was organized by the J. Hood Wright Recreation Center, which provided the two-seaters, safety helmets and instruction for the eager riders.
