Quiara Alegria Hudes’s play “Water by the Spoonful” has won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
The play, which premiered in November at Hartford Stage, concerns a returning Iraq war veteran battling demons in his hometown of Philadelphia.
“It’s about addiction and recovery and family,” said Hudes, 34, who lives in the Washington Heights area of New York City. “It’s a highly fictionalized story based on a cousin of mine. He was a Marine in Iraq.”
