A Washington Heights duo that became instant Internet sensations this year with a comedic spoof video that drew nearly a million views is back, putting an uptown twist on a popular Jay-Z and Kanye West record.
Funnymen Michael Diaz and Oscar Martinez – collectively known as Juan Bago and O, respectively – released “Dominis in the Heights,” a spoof of the Jay-Z and West collaboration, “…in Paris,” and its already creating a buzz on the Internet.
While the video, released two weeks ago, is a spoof, Diaz, 34, said they’re not poking fun at the hip-hop superstars.
“We didn’t go out and make fun of them. We just played homage to their characters,” said Diaz, who plays the character of Kanye West, wearing tight red pants and gold chains in the video.
Diaz said the video is intended to make light of a real-life situation: going on a date and splitting the bill in half, also commonly known as “going Dutch.”
“Times so hard everything is so pricey. I’m not paid,” raps Martinez, 25, who plays the Jay-Z character.
“Baby, tonight we going H.A.M. Half on all meals,” he continued in the video, that highlights uptown locations such as the “Chimi” Dominican food truck on W. 211th St. and 10th Ave. and restaurant Pick & Eat on Broadway near W. 177th St.
