Emmy Award winner and author Sandra Guzman Shares with the UC her “Ten Musts for a Magical and Majestic Summer”
And be on the look out for her next week here on the UC when we start a new section, “Roof Talk”.
Sandra Guzman’s ten musts for a magical and majestic summer:
1. Peace of mind, heart & soul
It’s always accessible to us this simple and beautiful state of mind, but in the midst of the daily drama (or family, husband, wife, girl or boyfriend, work, name the drama here) we forget. A good place to start is to meditate. Fifteen minutes is all it takes. Be still. Be aware. Believe.
2. A bike
It is so much fun to explore the City on two wheels. You learn so much about yourself, and others. It’s a great mode of transport that beats the subway. The ride along the path along the West Side by the Hudson River is glorious–one of the most remarkable views/places inManhattan.
3. A good read
Of course, I’m going to plug “The New Latina’s Bible.” It’s for beautifulLatinagoddesses and those who love us. I guarantee – you will not be the same once you read my book. It was written with love – lots of it.
4. Sensual and soft skin
This is the time when skin is exposed, so slather it with sun protection – no matter how dark your skin is. It’s a myth that brown folk don’t get sun poison.
5. Good brunch spots
I like Rayuela (onAllen streetin LES), La Esquina (the diner) and Maoz atUnion Square(there are other locales) but really the City is filled with delicious cafes to take in conversation, food and people.
6. Great walking sandals
I just got me a pair of UGGz platform slippers. They are inches above the ground to keep grime away, but are as comfortable as the every lasting flat Brazilian Havainas. Worth the splurge!
7. Music that moves your body and soul
I am loving Donna De Lory’s soulful “Sanctuary”. But summer also means hot salsa, merengue, hip hop, reggaeton, Ahhh there is Shakira, Marc Anthony, Maelo, Don Omar, Lil Wayne (did I just list Lil Wayne?)… Pandora stations on the iPhone keep me very happy, all day long.
8. A good peluquera/ro
Need to keep the crown looking luscious and shiny. Paul from Ge-na Le Salon is my mane man, but Emily from Bodre (4714 Broadway) is a fierce and I mean fierce, close second.
9. A great pedicure
Yup, the queen of mani pedi is Glenis & her girls at Boudre Salon. Hands down, the most amazing in the entire tri-state area!
10. Positive people that are about doing something great
Positive, healthy energy friends, family & loves make everything even more beautiful. Enjoy the ones you love.
