Uptown based Art entity, SOUND OF ART, recently brokered a deal between Real Estate based firm RIPCO and Uptown’s very own muralist/graffiti artist DISTER. The deal consisted of DISTER bringing some artistic flavor to a RIPCO Harlem community event that took place in one of their empty commercial spaces (which they were showcasing to potential buyers, using this event). Dister’s put together a singularly impressive mural dedicated to the culture, history and lifestyle of Harlem, in addition to several canvases that were spread through-out this huge space.
The mural was the backdrop to the live jazz band that played the soundtrack to this affair. It’s not his signature that makes this Harlem mural undeniably Dister’s, it is his “I LOVE MY HOOD” message that he added to it. It is part of his artistic master plan, injecting community pride to all ‘hoods. Dister is one of those Washington Heights artists that practices what he preaches.
Be on the lookout for a Dister, I LOVE MY HOOD mural popping up on a wall near you.
