I.S. 52'S NEW TRACK AND FIELD INAUGURATED

BY Carolina Pichardo

There are certain moments and events that make you reconsider living Uptown.  Such as the summer season, which is when everyone and their mother with their mother come out to walk around and crowd the streets.  Then there’s also the Yankees and Boston’s winning seasons, blackouts, and let’s not forget (although we try) Halloween.

But there are some nice moments too.

Like earlier this week, there was a beautiful event at one of our local schools that made me realize that there’s so much this neighborhood has to offer.  I.S. 52 held an inauguration for the school’s brand new track & field.  Students were performing, there was a mariachi band, and some of the kids even got a chance to test their new turf.  It was a great boost to the kids there.  They were having fun being the center of attention for something that’s good and positive (for a change).

Although the field is not yet open to the public, the administration is looking to make it available for the community to use.  Currently, they’re waiting on the final approval from the top brass as well as suggestions on how to maintain the field.
