La Barberia Play Opens Tomorrow

BY Led Black (@Led_Black)

Okay folks, it’s time to dig in your pockets and snatch up your tickets to this amazing show. La Barberia is set in the Heights, in the inner sanctum for Latino men that is the barbershop, and boasts an incredible cast. First off, the big homie, Manny Perez of La Soga fame plays the lead role (Beny) and my good friend, the incredibly talented, comedian/actor Ruperto Vanderpool shines as Bachatero. Not to mention, the superb Mateo Gomez who has been in such films as Che, Pinero and The Bone Collector among others and Modesto Lacen who was outstanding as Pedro Knight in the Off-Broadway play Celia. While this play will certainly make you laugh, it will also make you think as it tackles the thorny topic of a neighborhood in the throes of change. Ultimately, the play is a tribute to the dynamism, durability and vigor of this remarkable community. If we want to see more of our stories being told then it is imperative that we support this production. There is power in patronage.
