UPTOWN ARTIST – ED UBIERA

BY Led Black (@Led_Black)

I first came across the artwork of Ed Ubiera via the Sound of Art. I was immediately blown away by how amazingly talented this man is. Ed is an art machine, producing eye-popping and complex masterpieces effortlessly and prolifically. What I enjoy most about his work is that there a mental commitment you make when attempting to digest it. His output is cerebral while at the same time instantly appealing. Ed is also the man behind the Uptown Collective’s cartoon strip, The Last Stop as well as the super cool Sound of Art t-shirt you may have seen around town. Make sure to stop by the Off the Map Market tomorrow at Bread & Yoga (4951 Broadway @ 207th Street) from 1:30 to 9 PM, as Ed Ubiera will be in the building selling his artwork. This is your chance to put his work on your walls.

What are some of the things you love about living Uptown?

The food and it is getting better and more varied everyday.

What is the meaning of Chicken and Robots?

Chickens and Robots is like Ying and Yang, man and woman, nature and machines. Polar opposites basically – plus it has a nice ring but it has nothing to do with the TV show, but I do like that show.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

Huge. I’m big in Japan mostly because Japanese people are short.

Is there anything else you would like our audience to know about you or your work?

I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil but nowadays I never seem to have the time to draw as much as I would like.

Thanks

-Ed
